Good advice for all writers on building an email list

By Mark Dawson I can still remember it, even three years later. I had published my first indie novel, The Black Mile, and had arranged a weekend’s worth of promotion to mark it going free for a few days. It was August, and I was out for a ride on my bike to watch the […]

Motivate Yourself by Submitting to a Writing Contest — Live to Write – Write to Live

Today’s post is as much for me as it is for you. You see, I’ve been quite lethargic about writing fiction lately, as my business has been so pleasantly busy that I don’t have time to write for fun. I put don’t have time in italics, since, we all know that we make time for what is […]

The highly successful New York Times bestselling team of Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark may be a little too lofty for us to compete with t the moment, but we might as well aim high. They look like they are having fun and I love the necklaces. So that’s an achievable goal. New Goal: When we complete the first draft, we get new necklaces!

Research or Shopping?

One of the joys of the rare occasions when we are in the same place, is the chance to poke around quaint towns and shop, I mean do research. This shop was in a seaside town in Florida. It is so much fun to take locations we have scouted, people we know, and stories we have heard and work them into our fiction. As the saying goes: Be nice or I’ll put you in my novel. On a more serious note, if you can’t visit your location in person, Google Earth will come to the rescue. You can swoop down the avenues of Paris, France or Paris, Texas. Maybe Rome, Georgia?  I actually saw the Google Earth crew filming the streets of our summer getaway spot, so I waved. Maybe I will see myself! Science fiction anyone? For now, I will just enjoy the technology and ignore the privacy concerns. Is that a black helicopter overhead??kim and christine

Nova Scotia and Florida

Two of our favorite places. Surprise, surprise. Our current book features a Nova Scotian amateur sleuth in Florida. This gives us an excuse (like we need one) to spend time in both places and call it research. We don’t plan to deduct the travel expenses from our taxes but we probably could. Maybe on the next book. Ideas are already percolating! In the meantime, here is a lovely photo of the seabound coast of Nova Scotia to whet your appetite.
